Participant Highlight: Shannon's Story
Shannon joined PACE Central Michigan in August 2022 after a challenging recovery from severe COVID-19, which required intubation and extended care far from home. With her family's support, she transferred closer to home for rehabilitation and, after being discharged, began PACE services. Initially needing full assistance with daily tasks, Shannon regained strength and independence through determination and the dedicated care of the PACE team. She now walks with a walker, completes tasks like showering and doing dishes, has returned to church, and lives independently. Grateful for the support, Shannon says, "Every department makes me feel like a princess," and continues to inspire others with her remarkable recovery.
Participant Highlight: Carl's Story
Before joining PACE, Carl faced significant physical and emotional challenges in the hospital, was isolated from his family for weeks, and later found himself in a nursing home, spending most days in bed and losing hope of returning home. In July 2023, he began rehabilitation with the PACE therapy team, where one of his favorite moments was learning to use a sock aid, allowing him to put on his socks independently. He considers this achievement a "lifesaver." Beyond regaining physical abilities, PACE transformed Carl's outlook on life, giving him a renewed sense of purpose in a relaxed, positive environment that encouraged him to engage in activities he once thought impossible. His favorite part of the day is the bus ride to PACE, where he knows he's coming to a good place. "Everybody likes everybody, and I like everybody."
