60 Years of Masonic Service
Robert “Bob” D. Dingman was a devoted husband, father, Mason, and community servant whose life was defined by hard work, generosity, and dedication to others.
Bob married the love of his life, Shirley, in 1957, and together they shared 68 wonderful years of marriage. Their partnership was built on love, faith, family, and a lifetime of shared adventures.
Bob attended General Motors Institute, graduating in 1959 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He went on to enjoy a distinguished 38-year career with General Motors before retiring in 1992. He worked at Pontiac Motors until the plant’s closure and later contributed to a variety of engineering projects through the GM Technical Center.
In the 1960s, Bob and Shirley, with the help of family, built their own home in Lake Orion, where they raised their children. In 2001, they moved to Davison and continued creating cherished memories together.
Bob was deeply involved in the lives of his sons and devoted many years to Scouting. He served as both a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader, helping shape the lives of countless young men. One of the highlights of his Scouting experience was attending leadership training in New Mexico. Bob was also a dedicated Mason and a proud member of Lake Orion Lodge No. 46, where he served as Worshipful Master in 1971.
Faith played an important role in Bob’s life. He was a member of Lake Orion United Methodist Church for more than 50 years and actively participated in mission work. Whether helping construct church buildings in Michigan, repairing homes in Louisiana following a hurricane, or joining youth mission trips to Tennessee, Bob was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Bob and Shirley shared a love of travel and adventure. Together, they camped and traveled throughout all 50 states, Canada, and several foreign countries in their motorhome. They also enjoyed spending their winters at their second home in Zolfo Springs, Florida.
A talented craftsman, Bob enjoyed building and woodworking. In retirement, he found great joy in creating wooden toys that charitable organizations distributed to children during the Christmas season. His craftsmanship reflected the kindness and generosity that characterized his life.
Bob’s legacy lives on through the family he loved, the communities he served, and the many lives he touched through Masonry, faith, and service to others.
