Re: Job’s Daughters International – Declared Clandestine and Recognition Removed

Dear Masonic Family,

As Grand Master, I am reminded that the principles and high standards of Masonry are built around Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth. When there is any threat to those principles and standards, I feel it is my duty to protect our fraternity including the people, the assets, and the reputation of Michigan Masons. Our Masonic buildings are a place of security, fellowship, and a safe haven to all that enter.
By now, I’m sure most of you have heard the news of the edict I issued which removed recognition of Job’s Daughters International as an approved affiliated order in Michigan. My decision was not one that was made lightly, in fact it was one of the toughest I have ever had to make. On one hand, I knew I needed to protect Michigan Masons, but it was just as important to me to protect you, the daughters and adults. The worst part of this decision is the knowledge that the very ones I have been trying to protect would be the ones who are hurt the most and for that I am so sorry.
While it is true my edict says no Job’s Daughters International Bethels could meet in a Masonic building, that does not mean I am banning YOU, the Michigan youth and adults, from using our Masonic facilities to gather as a social club, as friends, or as a “Kids Lodge”. With adult chaperones, youth may gather for fellowship, to study, to play games, share meals together, or any other activities not related to Job’s Daughters International.
For those who continue your journey with Job’s Daughters International, I wish you great success, growth, and happiness in all you do. I will do my best to support you in any way possible that is not in conflict with the edict.
I was on the Zoom calls last week and words cannot express how proud I am of all of you and how you handled yourselves through the discussions and questions. Daughters, you are remarkable young ladies with strong skills in public speaking, ritual, and so many other great qualities. If you take anything away from my year as Grand Master, I hope it is these things I have told you many times before; You have within yourselves the abilities to do great things. If you believe it, you can achieve it!

Fraternally,

Leonard K. Davis,

Life throws curve balls all of time. We can snap react, or we can think it through. MWGM Leonard Davis did his due diligence, took his time, and made a very hard decision. I am honored to call him a brother.

I can’t imagine how hard a decision like this must be. Thank you for serving us.

Dad Davis as a member and adult of JDI, I thank you. As the wife of a Past Master, I thank you. As the granddaughter of a Mason, I thank you. I still choose to honor the Masons in my life. While the road ahead is uncertain, I will do my best for our girls.

I am devastated for the divide and tension this is going to cause families. My grandfather has devoted almost 70 years to this craft. With this edict you are forcing him to choose between his families legacy for the last couple hundred years and supporting his granddaughters. My heart is breaking for him. To all the masons that have been put in this same position. I am so sorry you are in my thoughts and my prayers.

This might get me in trouble but wouldn’t be the first time. So let me make it clear he did what he did to force the hand of some old nags to meet with him so they can resolve this issue and get some women reinstated after false allegations against them was made. These old bags are not wanting to meet because they don’t wanna meet you have to make tough decisions about certain things. He wants nothing but the youth groups to thrive and if you think otherwise you definitely never talked to him or know him. He did what he did to force the hand of old nags that are denying these innocent people of rejoining these youth groups but we must remember these women who got wrongfully accused and wrongfully punished are volunteers just like everyone in the youth groups the old nags need to meet with the grand master and committee to resolve this.

Perhaps the daughters for the time being can join a Rainbow chapter. I believe there is one in Roseville.

Would you please explain in detail what actions by the Job’s Daughters International lead you to believe that they were threatening the principles, people, assets and reputation of the Michigan Masons. Also was the actions taken by a Michigan Chapter or by the National Governing Body?

Dear Grand Lodge, when will you officially roll out Kid’s Lodge? Is this the soft open for your new youth group? Are you hoping that the past membership of JDI will be your first youth to attend, now that you have taken away their youth group? Should the other Masonic youth groups be worried that you will shut them down as a way to help boost membership in Kids Lodge? I think you would actually have more members if you introduced them to each youth group as a hangout spot instead of destroying what was already there. You say you wanted to protect the girls, how do you plan to protect them with Kid’s Lodge? What will your child protection plan look like? By law, every youth group has to have one. Starting a new youth group, while you shut down another looks very suspicious! I would like to hear your plan to move forward.

Thank you MWGM Leonard Davis for always protecting our youth and having their best interest at heart.

The JDI Board President did a video that pretty much said you are guilty until proven innocent

Hugs to everyone involved and praying this gets resolved quickly. This must have been a very hard decision for grand lodge to make.

Here in WV, none of the youth orders are recognized by the GL, but they can meet in e.g. the dining hall. They can--and usually do---meet at the Shrine or the Scottish Rite.

Thank you

I wonder where he got this idea from?

I feel so bad that problem with grand lodge and Jobs has occurred it has to be hard for all concerned I was a Rainbow girl and in many adult groups and Grand Lodge needs to keep an eye on all the various groups not all live up to their promises and some should be outlawed as not living up to masonic standards. I don't know all the ins and outs of this problem with Job's but I hope it can be figured out and put right. I pray for answers for all and am sad for those hurt. Thank you MWGM for taking a painful and hard stand. My cousin is a past MWGM and served well, and I've known many other past grands, as I served as a head of a Michigan order years ago. Many things happen and many people fall short of obligations and make accusations about others. Many of the problems are false because someone didn't get their way. I hope this isn't what is happening with this. Please keep supporting our youth and work to fix this. Bless you for making the hard choice to try to fix this. I know that your decisions as MWGM are well thought out and not done on a whim. May all work out for the Michigan masonic family

Should Rainbow & DeMolay in MI be worried?

I live in Erie, PA now, but I used to live in Flat Rock, and I was honored to become an honorary member of Hiram Lodge # 110 back in 1995. I am a member here in Erie and have been for 46 years. Would like to go back to Flat Rock and attend lodge again if anyone remembers me. I was good friends with W. Bro. Al Winnick. Would like to hear from anyone that remembers me to text me. I would come up for a MM degree on the 3rd Saturday sometime. Would the Lodge Sec. contact me so I can ask for a tresses board? Thank you

YOU WILL ALWAYS BE PROUD YOU DID
