The Respiratory Therapist Supervisor will assist in supervising the VDCU Respiratory Therapists who provide respiratory and pulmonary medicine services as prescribed to residents. Responsibilities will include but not limited to:
- Provides a minimum of twenty (20) hours per week on-site for clinical reviews, training, and intervention as needed.
- Provides respiratory and pulmonary medicine services as prescribed by a physician/provider.
- Maintains adequate inventory of equipment and supplies. Assures routine maintenance of equipment to maintain adequately functioning equipment.
- Assists with planning and providing staff development programs for department staff and the organization. In the VDCU, the Respiratory Therapy Supervisor will verify that nurses have satisfactorily demonstrated competence in all areas of respiratory care and a working knowledge of the care of the ventilator dependent resident which includes a minimum of twenty (20) hours of didactic education and forty (40) hours of experiential care of the ventilator dependent resident as required.

- The Respiratory Therapy Supervisor will monitor the nurse’s performance to assure the safety and effectiveness of the respiratory care provided, and will provide yearly written, signed, and dated competencies.

- Assists in formulating policies and procedures for the department.
- Maintains work schedules and job assignments for subordinate staff in coordination with the Scheduling Department.
- Participates in community health education projects as assigned.
- Responds to emergencies as a member of the code team.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of Accredited Respiratory Therapy Program with an associate or bachelor’s degree required.
- Three years or more of leadership experience preferred.
- Advanced level accreditation (RRT) through the National Board of Respiratory Care required.
