Honoring Bro. Clayton Boike

A Teacher in All but Title

My husband, Clayton C. Boike (1938-2025), was a 32nd Degree Mason and a proud Shriner. We were blessed with 45 wonderful years of marriage. Clay deeply loved his family and friends and was known for his kindness, compassion, and wonderful sense of humor. He had a gift for making others feel valued and was always willing to lend a helping hand.

In retirement, we had planned to volunteer by transporting children with disabilities. Instead, life led us down a different path, and together we adopted and raised four of our grandchildren, a role that brought us great purpose and joy.

Clay was also a devoted member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 53 years. Through his own journey of recovery, he became a mentor and inspiration to countless individuals seeking sobriety. His wisdom, patience, and ability to guide others made a lasting difference in many lives. As a husband and father, he possessed an extraordinary depth of knowledge and understanding. I often felt he would have made an exceptional teacher.

One of Clay’s lifelong passions was dirt-track motorcycle racing. He continued racing into his 60s and generously shared his knowledge by teaching many young men both racing skills and mechanical work. Several of those he mentored went on to build successful careers and even own their own businesses.

Professionally, Clay was a dedicated union autoworker for General Motors. He was also an active member of Wayne Masonic Lodge No. 112, Shriners International, Scottish Rite, and the Taylor, Michigan Tin Lizzies.

Our life together was full, meaningful, and deeply spiritual. The memories we created and the lives Clay touched will continue to inspire all who knew him. He is missed beyond words and remembered with tremendous love.
