A Purple Heart and a Masonic Heart

We honor the memory of Jack Eugene Blacklock, a devoted Mason, proud veteran, community leader, and beloved husband.
Jack was born and raised in the small town of Elberta, Michigan, where his father, Allen Blacklock, was also born and raised. He grew up alongside his two brothers and sister and graduated from Elberta High School in a class of just five students.
At the age of 19, Jack enlisted in the United States Navy and served during World War II in the South Pacific. During his service, his ship came under attack, and he was wounded in action. For his bravery and sacrifice, he was awarded the Purple Heart. Following an extended stay in a California military hospital, Jack was honorably discharged in 1945 and returned home to Elberta.
Over the years, Jack dedicated himself to both his community and his profession. He worked as a railroad fireman, helped operate the family restaurant, and later served as postmaster for several years. His commitment to service extended far beyond his career. He was deeply involved in village activities, an active member of the Masonic fraternity, and a dedicated Lion. While serving as a District Governor for Lions International, he helped establish several new clubs throughout the region.
A proud 32nd Degree Mason, Jack dedicated decades to Freemasonry and received his 60-Year Masonic Service Pin in 2007, a testament to his lifelong commitment to the Craft.
Jack embraced life with enthusiasm and kindness, earning the friendship and respect of everyone he met. After retiring, he and his wife, Blanche, moved to Tucson, Arizona, where they enjoyed 16 wonderful years together. There, Jack became an active participant in community life and found great joy in producing and performing in musical stage shows. He especially loved singing and was a proud member of the chorus.
Jack and Blanche were married in 1977 and shared 35 happy years together. Though their time together was precious, it never seemed long enough. Jack passed away in December 2012 at the age of 89, leaving behind a legacy of service, friendship, generosity, and love.
He will be remembered not only for his remarkable accomplishments, but also for his warm spirit, unwavering dedication to others, and the positive impact he made on every life he touched.
