Roger W. Gareiss passed away on July 12, 2026, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of faith, family, service, and brotherhood. For 51 years as a Mason, Roger exemplified the values of integrity, compassion, and dedication that define the fraternity.
A devoted follower of Christ, Roger began each day with prayer and Bible devotions, faithfully seeking to live a life that honored the Lord. His faith was the foundation of everything he did and the guiding force behind his relationships, service, and leadership.
On February 12, 1972, Roger married the love of his life, Darlene Creakbaum, in Winona Lake, Indiana. Together they shared more than 54 years of marriage, building a life centered on love, faith, and service to others. Roger often described himself as a “jack of all trades and master of none,” but those who knew him best would say he mastered what mattered most: loving God, serving others, and caring for his family.
Roger faithfully served as a lay minister and church leader, led Bible studies, and taught Sunday School, always eager to share God’s Word and encourage others in their faith. A lifetime member of Charlotte Lodge No. 120 F. & A.M., he served as Worshipful Master and attained the rank of 33rd Degree Mason. Freemasonry held a special place in his heart, and he treasured the friendships and fellowship he found among his Brothers.
During the Christmas season, Roger delighted children and families by dressing as Santa Claus for community events, bringing joy and smiles to all who met him. He was also an avid 5K runner who found peace in the quiet miles, appreciating God’s creation and the reflection that came with each stride. Whether leading a Bible study, lending a helping hand, or simply listening to someone in need, Roger lived a life marked by generosity, kindness, and compassion.
Of all his accomplishments, Roger was most proud of his family. He was a loving and devoted husband, father of five, grandfather to 25 grandchildren, great-grandfather to 15 great-grandchildren, and a friend to everyone he met. His legacy of faith, love, and service will continue to inspire generations to come. Those who loved Roger find comfort in knowing that he is now in God’s presence, watching over his family and friends. Though deeply missed every day, his example, faith, and love remain forever in the hearts of those who knew him.
