A Craftsman’s Hands, A Mason’s Heart
26 Years in Masonry
Alfonce “Al” Leppek was proud to be a Mason. After each of his initiatory degrees, he would come home enthusiastic and animated, eager to share his experiences. His dedication to the Craft led him to serve as Worshipful Master of East Lansing Lodge No. 480.
When Al and his wife, Marilyn, moved to Traverse City in 2005, he became an honorary member of both Traverse City Lodges. He later continued his Masonic journey by becoming a Knights Templar, an experience he greatly enjoyed. His enthusiasm inspired several of his Lodge brothers to join as well. Al’s ceremonial sword had special significance, as it had belonged to my grandfather and was more than 100 years old when Al joined the Commandery.
In 2014, Al became a member of the Lewis Cass Society. He was also a member of the Platinum Craftsman Donor Club and received the Grand Commander’s Service Award Certificate in recognition of his dedication and service.
A talented woodworker, Al crafted many gavels for Worshipful Masters to use during their installations, leaving a lasting contribution to the Lodges he loved.
Al was also active in the Order of the Eastern Star, where he served as Worthy Patron six times.
For Al, Masonry was not simply an organization he belonged to; it was a way of life. He lived its principles through his service, leadership, fellowship, and commitment to others.
