The Road He Traveled to Help Others
Richard “Dick” Arnold Meitz lived a life defined by service, family, and compassion for others.
Dick proudly served in the United States Army as a Military Police officer and was stationed in Germany during his military career. While serving overseas in 1958, he had the memorable opportunity to meet Elvis Presley and was impressed by how genuine and down-to-earth he was. Dick was honorably discharged from the Army in 1962.
Later that same year, Dick met the love of his life, Sally. They were married on November 2, 1962, beginning a partnership that would span decades. Together, they raised two children, a son, Richard Jr., and a daughter, Sheila.
A devoted husband, father, and hardworking provider, Dick was deeply committed to his family. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors, with rabbit hunting and fishing among his greatest passions.
After retiring from Ford Motor Company, Dick and Sally moved to Clare County in 1992, where they embraced the next chapter of their lives.
Dick was a dedicated Mason and served as Worshipful Master of John J. Carton Lodge No. 436. Over the course of his 34 years of Masonic membership, he exemplified the principles of brotherhood, service, and integrity.
On May 15, 1993, he became a Noble of the Mystic Shrine at Elf Khurafeh Shrine in Saginaw. Through his involvement with the Shriners, Dick made numerous trips transporting children and their parents to Chicago for specialized medical care. He found great joy in helping others, especially children, and loved making them laugh and smile.
Dick’s legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched with his kindness, generosity, and unwavering commitment to service.
