A Lifetime of Grace, Service, and Sisterhood
Doris Norton has been a devoted member of the Order of the Eastern Star for more than seven decades, inspired by her father, Corry Smith Cookingham, a Master Mason. She joined the Order in 1950, the same year she married Edward Norton.
For most of her membership, Doris was part of the East Bay Masonic Temple, East Bay Lodge No. 264, in Acme, Michigan. The image of her preparing for meetings in her elegant formal attire remains a cherished memory. Known for her compassion, kindness, and dedication, she served in many leadership roles within the Order and was elected Worthy Matron several times.
When the East Bay Masonic Temple closed, Doris briefly transferred her membership to Elk Rapids Masonic Lodge No. 275 before joining the Traverse City Masonic Temple, Traverse Bay Area Chapter No. 147, where she remained an active member for the rest of her OES journey.
Doris’s love for the Order of the Eastern Star never faded. This year, she celebrates an extraordinary 76 years of membership, a testament to her lifelong commitment to the values of fellowship, service, and faith.
