In 1891, that vision became reality when the first Masonic Home opened near Reed’s Lake in Grand Rapids—a testament to the power of brotherhood and shared purpose.
To sustain this mission of care, the Michigan Masonic Charitable Foundation was born. It was built on the unwavering generosity of Masons determined to extend the meaning of “brotherhood” beyond the Lodge walls and into the heart of every community.
Today, that spirit lives on through the Foundation’s work—providing assistance to Brothers and their families while championing causes that strengthen communities: promoting literacy and education, ensuring public safety, alleviating hunger, and supporting families and youth. The Widows Reimbursement Program helps Michigan lodges honor and support the widows of Master Masons through meaningful acts of kindness and remembrance. Whether it's a holiday gift, special event, or simple gesture of appreciation, this program helps ensure Masonic Sweethearts remain a cherished part of our Masonic family. By assisting lodges with these efforts, the Michigan Masonic Charitable Foundation helps carry forward the timeless Masonic values of brotherly love, relief, and lasting care.
The Sweethearts Society helps keep the widows of Michigan Masons connected to the Fraternity and reminds them they will always be a cherished part of the Masonic family. Members receive a commemorative Sweethearts Society pin, a special poem, and regular communications, including the Sweethearts Society newsletter. There is no cost to join, just an ongoing commitment from the Michigan Masonic Charitable Foundation to honor, remember, and support the women who stood beside our Brothers throughout their lives.
The Michigan Child ID Program helps families take an important step in protecting their children by providing free Child ID Kits at community events across the state. Hosted by local Michigan Masonic lodges, the program equips parents and guardians with essential identification materials and child safety resources that can assist law enforcement in the event of an emergency. There’s nothing quite like a summer night at the ballpark, and Otisville Lodge #401 was happy to be part of it. Earlier this summer, they used their Lodge Charity Account to make a donation to the Otisville Little League, with the check presented during one of the league’s scheduled nights of play.
Thank you to Otisville Lodge #401 for supporting local baseball and helping give young athletes the chance to play, compete, and enjoy the game this summer.

We are pleased to announce that William Mitchell has accepted the position of lnterim Chief Executive Officer for the Michigan Masonic Home.
William has been a dedicated member of the Michigan Masonic Home since 2014. As a Respiratory Therapist by profession, he has served the organization in several key leadership roles, including the Director of Respiratory Therapy for the Ventilator Dependent Care Unit, the Director of Care Coordination for PACE Central Michigan and most recently, the Director of Admissions and Business Development for the Michigan Masonic Home.
