Position Summary:
The Materials Management Manager is responsible for implementing and managing facility‑wide materials management programs. This role plans, organizes, coordinates, and negotiates for products, equipment, and services for Michigan Masonic Home.
In addition, the Materials Management Manager monitors market trends, pricing, economic influences, and contracts for areas of responsibility. The position is also responsible for the oversight of daily operations of the organization’s supply chain, including purchasing, inventory control, distribution, and vendor management.
The Materials Management Manager ensures the timely availability of medical and non‑medical supplies while maintaining cost efficiency, regulatory compliance, and high service levels that support quality resident/patient care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities to Include but Not Limited to:
- Directing and overseeing all materials management functions including procurement, receiving, storage, and distribution of supplies and equipment.
- The development, implementation, and ongoing monitoring of transactional operations related to supply chain management / materials management including leading work groups to drive continuous improvement in response to audits.
- Sourcing, procurement and customer service tasks related to the daily operations supporting processing of supplies.
- Facilitating all vendor meetings and work to ensure discrepancies are managed timely and continuous improvements are made related to the processes.
- Providing regular guidance, training and support to departmental staff and the leadership team regarding procurement-related matters to facilitate compliance with policies and procedures, audit findings, and audit requirements.
- Ongoing assessment of all contracts, taking full advantage of group purchasing opportunities.
- Contract review at least annually, and negotiation of all contracts related to supply chain management related to pricing, volume, and group purchasing organization (GPO) options.
- Establishing and maintaining a “blanket purchase order” program as appropriate.
- Maintaining appropriate inventory levels to support resident care.
- Maintaining inventory disbursement tracking and reporting.
- Maintaining a cycle counting inventory control, product disbursement tracking, and purchasing and receiving functions.
- Departmental operational and capital budgets and management by objectives (MBOs) for the department.
- Central supply and medical supply functions being performed in accordance with State, Federal, OSHA and OBRA regulations.
- Streamlining central supply functions, autoclaving, solution making, ordering of medical supplies, stock rotation, supply replenishment and delivery function.
- Assisting/providing information to the leadership team in the development of their departmental capital and operational/expense budgets.
- Property and equipment management guidelines to ensure assets are accurately recorded and in compliance with government regulations and accounting industry standards to ensure the physical assets used to conduct Michigan Masonic Home’s mission are correctly reported.
Education and/or Experience Qualifications:
- Requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, business administration, healthcare administration or a related field, or equivalent education and experience in supply chain management and / or materials management.
- Minimum of three years’ experience in a healthcare organization/healthcare industry related to supply chain / materials management with contract negotiation experience to include the ability to negotiate effectively for specific contract terms.
- Supervisory or management experience required.
- Interpersonal skills needed to effectively communicate with individuals and groups and the ability to interact with people at all levels in a clear and concise manner.
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate change.
- Experience with materials management information systems required to include inventory control, purchasing, bar coding, and MS Office.
- Certified Materials Resource Professional (CMRP) or Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) preferred.
