Infection Preventionist/Wound Care Nurse

Michigan Masonic Home is looking for a talented, compassionate, and hard-working Infection Preventionist/Wound Care RN Our team members go above and beyond to serve the residents they care for. The Infection Preventionist/Wound Care RN is responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of a facility-wide infection prevention and control program and provides primary skin and wound care to residents. This position also includes related duties as required to meet the mission, vision, and values of Michigan Masonic Home.

Overview of Duties and Responsibilities to include but not limited to:

  • Develops and implements an ongoing infection prevention and control program to prevent, recognize, and control the onset and spread of infections in order to provide a safe, sanitary, and comfortable environment.
  • Establishes facility-wide systems for the prevention, identification, reporting, investigation, surveillance, and control of infections and communicable diseases of residents, staff, and visitors.
  • Develops and implement written policies and procedures in accordance with current standards of practice and recognized guidelines for infection prevention and control.
  • Oversees the facility’s antibiotic stewardship program.
  • Oversees resident care activities that increase risk of infection (i.e., use and care of urinary catheters, wound care, incontinence care, skin care, point-of-care blood testing, and medication injections).
  • Leads the facility’s Infection and Prevention Control Committee.  Develops action plans to address opportunities for improvement.
  • Participates on the facility’s Quality Assurance and Process Improvement (QAPI) Committee. 
  • Provide education related to infection prevention and control principles, policies, and procedures to staff, residents, and families (where appropriate).
  • Identifies, manages, and treats specific skin conditions, such as pressure injuries; diabetic, venous, or arterial ulcers, and traumatic or complicated wounds
  • Provide wound care to residents, in accordance with physician order

Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited professional nursing program, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Current license to practice as an RN in Michigan with a minimum of two (2) years of experience.
  • Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) preferred.
  • Must complete the CDC “Nursing Home Infection Preventionist” training course within 3 months of hire.
