Responsibilities Will Include:

Accountable to the Director Of Nursing for the day-to-day activities and tasks performed by self and assigned staff (team).  Accountable for overall resident care and staff supervision through the appropriate and consistent follow through of resident care plans for the unit(s) as assigned.   The ABU Unit Manager, along with the Medical Director, provides Ventilator Care Program leadership including implementation, care coordination, and quality assessment.   Accountable for program processes and clinical guidelines, implements program components, ensures staff are fully trained in ventilator care, oversees, and coordinates resident care from pre-admission through discharge.  Is actively involved in all program and quality measures. Accountable for practice consistent with scope, regulatory requirements, and policies and procedures.    Performs related duties as required to meet the Mission, Vision and Values of Masonic Pathways.

  • Participates in admissions and referral development activities
  • Works with insurance and payers to ensure care stay is covered. 
  • Understands Medicare skilled nursing and therapy requirements
  • Identifies risks for readmission and helps mitigate those risks along with the care team.
  • Upholds and promotes a person-centered care culture by assuring resident daily routines meet resident choice and previous lifestyle preferences.
  • Performs resident rounds initially upon arrival and no less than two times throughout the shift being aware of resident total needs as evidenced by frequent observations, caregiver reports and monitoring resident care profiles are being followed. 
  • Adjusts staff unit assignments for shift based on resident needs (acuity) and staff competence and experience (new hires).
  • Responsible for assuring thorough and informative shift to shift reporting for optimal communication and continuity.
  • Responsible for interviewing and selection of new team members and successful acclimation and orientation.
  • Monitors staff performance and consistent follow through of resident plans of care.  Continually provides staff education.
  • Provides daily unit rounds to monitor for safety compliance including proper egress, infection control practices, answering of alarms and sensors, lighting the way identifiers being maintained accurately, and proper equipment maintenance. 
  • Assures a living environment that is comfortable (temperature, lighting, noise, odors, tidy and free of obstruction).
  • Monitors that standard of practice for all unit-based competencies for Registered nurses, license practical nurses and certified nursing assistants according to facility policies & procedures.
  • Participates in Facility in-service committees and assist with orientation of new facility staff. 
  • Orients new employees to Ventilator Care Program education and training requirements.  Ensures that all clinical staff complete education/training and are competent in program clinical skills.

Qualifications:

Required training and experience to include graduation from an accredited school of nursing and must possess and maintain a current, valid registered nurse license required by the State of Michigan, plus two years of related experience. 

Must meet the Michigan Medicaid requirements for empirical and clinical experience in the care of the ventilator dependent patient. Minimum two years of experience in a leadership role.  Can provide evidence of strengths in leadership, communication, decision-making skills, and conflict resolution.
